Mackenzie Howse Grad Student Research Paper

Mackenzie is a MSc student in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies – Biology at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George, BC. She is supervised by Dr. Dezene Huber in the UNBC Insect Ecology Lab, and her research focuses on pollinator diversity following stand-replacing wildfires in the Cariboo Chilcotin. Additionally, she is studying how stand development and environmental context shape the communities of pollinating insects in these burned areas. Raised in Williams Lake, she holds a BSc in Forest Ecology and Management from UNBC and brings applied field experience from silviculture surveying and environmental consulting. With a lifelong exposure to forestry, her interest in wildfire ecology was sparked after the 2017 fire season. Mackenzie is passionate about research and science communication, particularly work grounded in community involvement and local knowledge. When she is not working in the field or at her desk, she enjoys cross-country skiing, wildlife photography, and quilting.
