Michelle Marchand Alkali Resource Management
I am an Indigenous Registered Professional Forester, with over twenty years of experience practicing silviculture in the Cariboo Region. I was always interested in pursuing a degree in natural resources, especially since many of my family are involved in the forest industry. I was born and raised in Salmon Arm, BC. My father is a logging truck driver and my mother volunteered in schools providing forestry education sessions. In 1998, I received my Bachelor of Natural Resource Science from Thompson Rivers University. Then I moved to Williams Lake in 1999, to start my forestry career with Riverside Forest Products Ltd (now Tolko Industries Ltd.). In 2010, I started my own consulting firm – Marchand Resource Management Ltd. I specialized in silviculture project management and completed contracts with BC Hydro, Tolko, BCTS, UBC Alex Fraser Research Forest, and Alkali Resource Management. These projects included environmental monitoring, planting supervision; mistletoe/brushing/juvenile spacing supervision; silviculture survey program implementation; and data entry. From 2012 to 2017, my husband – Chad Marchand (also a Registered Professional Forester) was part of MRM Ltd managing forest development projects throughout BC. In 2017, Chad joined the government branch of BC Timber Sales as a Practices Forester and has worked there ever since. Since the spring of 2020, I have been in the role of the Silviculture Supervisor for Alkali Resource Management Ltd. I am responsible for all of ARM’s silviculture obligations, plus some cutting permit submissions, creation of site plans, and supervising various silviculture projects. I am also the Silviculture Supervisor for Cariboo Aboriginal Forestry Enterprises Ltd, responsible for the forest management of the Cariboo Military Training Area (Lot #7741). I also continue to run MRM Ltd, doing projects for licensees in the Cariboo Region. In my off time, you will most likely see me at the hockey rink, watching our 2 boys – Rhys 17 and Liam 14, playing hockey. I also enjoy hunting, fishing, and sitting around the campfire with family and friends.
