Team Lead, Inventory Analysis and Reporting, MOF
Dan Turner is a forester based in Kamloops with over 25 years of experience working in BC. He began his career conducting growth and yield ground sampling across the province during the summers and performing GIS analysis and reporting in the winters.
For the past decade, Dan has worked with the MoF in roles focused on silviculture and inventory analytics. He is currently part of the Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch’s Inventory Analysis and Reporting team, where he helps deliver critical insights for sustainable forest management.
When he’s not working with data, you’ll find Dan outdoors—fishing, camping, and exploring BC’s incredible landscapes with his wife and two kids.
Presentation Abstract
Provincial Monitoring Web Applications
Provincial monitoring includes the Change Monitoring Inventory (CMI), Young Stand Monitoring (YSM) and National Forest Inventory (NFI) programs. The primary objective of all three is to monitor changes in growth, mortality, and forest health from statistically valid populations. There are now over 2,400 permanent monitoring plots established on a systematic grid across BC, providing robust data for inventory validation, assessing timber supply review assumptions, and a wide range of forest research applications.
The Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch (FAIB) recently transitioned their reporting of provincial monitoring outcomes into two web applications. Our presentation will focus on the outcomes presented in the two web applications.
