Garrett Whitworth is a technology development entrepreneur specializing in sustainable forestry and soil management who completed his PhD from Simon Fraser University in 2011 and his Postdoctoral work from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2015.

Upon graduating, Garrett returned to Kamloops, BC where he shifted his research focus from chemical biology to forest management innovation. He co-founded Innovatree Carbon Group Ltd. to commercialize innovative applications of biochar and “Forest Guardian”, a proprietary forest intelligence software package to reduce wildfire risk, track forest carbon sequestration and improve stakeholder engagement.

Garrett and the Innovatree team have a broad appreciation of biochar and the benefits that it offers. From mobile to permanent biochar facilities to biochar as a carbon sequestration tool, high quality filter, soil amendment and moisture retaining growing medium, Innovatree has explored the many opportunities associated with biochar for the past 8-years.

Overall, Garrett has used his extensive research and development background to drive forward innovation in forestry, improving sustainability and mitigating the impact of a changing climate. At Innovatree Carbon Group Garrett has been focused on innovative carbon sequestration and climate adaptation.
