Greg Smith

Greg Smith is the President of Gilbert Smith Forest Products Ltd. in Barriere, British Columbia. He received his Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of British Columbia in 1995 and is a Registered Professional Forester. After University he continued on with the family sawmill business and was responsible for operational forestry activities. After 7 years he shifted careers and became Project Manager for Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing. There he was able to improve his level of skiing along with develop his customer service, sales skills and business understanding with the exposure to a broad range of clientele. As part of a succession plan, he returned to the family business. He was able to chart a path through the economic downturn and return the company to profitability with the development of new products and markets. He is involved as a director and has held the role of Chairman for both the Western Redcedar Lumber Association and the Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau. He spends a lot of time in all aspects of the family business and enjoys the development and implementation of capital projects where he just finished leading over twenty-five million dollars in manufacturing upgrades over the past 10 years. More recently his focus has been on furthering the historic and new relationships integral to the fibre security of the company. He resides on a timbered acreage in Barriere with his wife Maureen and their three daughters where they all like to ski, work with their animals and enjoy the forests and outdoors.
