Haley Clement, Silviculture Forester, Williams Lake First Nation
Hayley Clement FIT has spent most of her life in Williams Lake and graduated from the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) in 2020 with a degree in Forest Ecology and Management, along with a minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). During her post-secondary education, she spent her summers working for BCTS in silviculture until graduation and briefly worked at Tolko in the planning department. She transitioned back to the BC provincial government, into the land and resource department, then the field operations department, primarily assisting with wildfire risk reduction for three years. In 2024, Hayley joined Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), where she now contributes to a range of projects, including forest restoration, wildfire risk reduction, prescribed fire, and road rehabilitation. With the prevalence of climate change, the urgent need for improved wildfire management in the region became evident. WLFN has since taken a leading role in these efforts, and Hayley is proud to support this work by combining Western science with Indigenous land management practices to help restore and protect the landscape.
