Jodi Axelson, Research Leader in Silviculture, MOF

Dr. Jodi Axelson (P.Ag) is a Research Leader in Silviculture in the Office of the Chief Forester (Forest Science, Planning and Practices Branch (FSPPB)) where she leads a research team focused on stand development, mixedwood management, forest nutrition and fertilization, decision support tools and management of long-term trials. Jodi is an adjunct professor in Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences at the University of British Columbia and a member of the Silviculture Innovation Program Operations and Extension teams. Jodi herself is an interdisciplinary scientist conducting applied research focused broadly on silvicultural systems, recovery from disturbance and adaptive management. In 2025 the silviculture research team, in collaboration with the stand establishment team (FSPPB) started an adaptive silviculture trial to evaluate drought resilience of an alternate stocktype at post-wildfire reforestation sites in the southern interior. This will be a multi-year research trial using observational and experimental approaches to inform how alternate stocktypes perform on challenging reforestation sites.
