Ken Zielke
Ken Zielke has over forty years of experience in resource management
throughout British Columbia, the US and Australia. He taught silviculture
and forest ecology at Selkirk College from 1985-90. Since 1990, Ken worked
as a consultant, to help clients improve understanding and application of
complex partial-cut silvicultural and harvesting systems for a variety of
objectives. During that time he worked with MacMillan Bloedel (developing
the retention system), the UBC Alex Fraser Research Forest, Western Forest
Products, Canadian Forest Products Ltd; the Chilliwack Forest District,
Tolko Industries Potlatch Corp (Idaho), Forestry Tasmania (Australia), and
BC Timber Sales with retention strategies, prescriptions and monitoring.
Ken also developed and delivered several silvicultural systems and
partial-cutting training sessions in the Interior and on the Coast for the
Ministry of Forests.
Ken was Director of Investigations from 2012-2017 at the BC Forest Practices
Board. He is currently helping to improve EBM in the Great Bear Rainforest,
building a Windthrow Management Manual for the Interior, and assisting on
several Forest Landscape Planning Pilots
