My research focuses on how harvesting intensity and overstory retention affect seedling regeneration across different climates in the interior of British Columbia. Specifically, I’ve investigated how the interaction between overstory tree retention and climatic transfer distance impacts Douglas-fir seedling survival and growth. I’ve also worked on the interactions between regional climate and overstory retention for both planted mixtures and naturally regenerating seedlings. These experiments were set up to allow us to examine potential impacts and solutions to the changing climate.
Outside of the Mother Tree Project I have worked for community forests and woodlots. I have a general love for all things tree-related including woodworking. Areas of particular interest to me are small-scale woodlot management for timber production and forest health.
